FaucetMend routes calls to independent contractors who set their own prices. Any figure we printed would be invented, and on a job that ranges from a two-dollar washer to replacing a fixture and everything under it, an invented range would be worse than nothing.

What moves it most

Whether the part exists and how easily it is got. Whether the fixture comes apart — a seized cartridge or a corroded mounting turns twenty minutes into two hours. Whether the shutoff valves under the sink still close, because if they do not, the water has to come off somewhere else before anything begins.

And whether the visit is a repair or becomes a replacement once the fixture is open.

The two questions worth asking every time

Have you got the part, or does it have to be ordered? It is the difference between one visit and two, and it is knowable before anybody sets off if you can say the manufacturer.

Do the shutoff valves close? If nobody has checked, the answer arrives at the worst possible moment.

And the cost nobody quotes

The cabinet. A base leak running quietly into a particle-board carcass costs more than any faucet, and it is the reason a slow leak is not a job to sit on.
